Think you've got dementia?
Updated: Dec 18, 2021
Today beautiful world includes a massive increase in connectivity. Many isolated
people will have been very grateful for this during COVID-19. However, there is
downside. Each time we're distracted by a phone notification or a new post and look at
our devices, we break our concentration. The brain likes novelty and will happily take
you from one place to another to another. Now, if you are a person who can't resist a
peek after a ping, then you might find your concentration waning - it's little bit like
there's a limited amount of space to think. Buddhists; call this the “monkey mind".
Unfortunately, repeated or chronic stress heightens the physiological consequence in
our body and our ability to relax becomes more difficult, throwing our nervous system
out of balance. And as our brains use pictures to create memories, that stress plays
havoc with our memory. Forgetfulness can be a sign of stress. You can manage this in
a many ways, but a good start is defining time slots to peek at social media. And
of course, mindfulness, meditation and/or self-hypnosis help.
Do you want to be in charge of your thoughts or let your thoughts boss you around?
